It’s easy to assume that the video streaming services we use every day are the same everywhere on the planet, but this is simply not the case. In particular, what is available on streaming services can vary considerably from country to country.
This is because streamers like Netflix make deals with other media companies to provide films and TV programs to specific markets. Star Trek: Discovery is a prime case in point. In North America, a certain type of access account is needed to travel where no one has gone before. In most other countries, however, you can enjoy Discovery without signing up for another streaming service, as it is easily accessible from Netflix.
This may seem a little tricky for Netflix subscribers. They pay a subscription fee; so shouldn’t they have access to all of Netflix’s home video content? But that’s not the case. You are only earmarked for the programs in the country where you created your account.
